How do I sign in and save my progress?

Do I have to sign in?

No. Reading, praying, and locking your apps all work without signing in.

Signing in is one extra step so some of your progress is not lost if you get a new phone.

Where do I sign in?

1. Tap the gear at the top right of Today to open Settings
2. Tap "Save your progress"
3. Tap "Continue with Apple"

You also see a "Sign in" button on some Today cards, and a "Save your progress first?" offer before you erase your phone's data.

What comes back on a new phone?

Sign in as early as you can. Your notification choices and your last-read spot in the Bible tab always follow you once you sign in.

Your XP and streak only carry over onto a phone you have not read or prayed on yet, so sign in on a new phone before you start using it there.

Your day-by-day reading plan is saved to your account too, but it does not put you back at your exact spot in that plan on a new phone.

Do my prayers save to my account too?

No, not unless you turn that on. Your prayers stay only on this phone by default.

To make a backup:

1. Tap the gear at the top right of Today to open Settings
2. Tap "Account"
3. Turn on "Back up my prayers"
4. Tap "Back them up" to confirm

This makes one scrambled copy of your prayers. It is scrambled on your phone before it ever leaves, and we cannot read it. After you sign in, a copy can come back onto a phone that has your key. Signing in on a phone never turns the backup on for that phone. To make a fresh copy later, turn the switch off, then back on again.

If you lose the key to your copy, for example by wiping this phone with no key saved anywhere else, the backup is lost too.

How do I get a copy of my data?

1. Tap the gear at the top right of Today to open Settings
2. Tap "Account"
3. Tap "Export my data"
4. Tap it again to save or share the file

The copy has your account details, synced progress, prayer backup, study claims, and profile. It does not have your group and people records or your support messages. To ask for those, send feedback.

How do I sign out?

1. Tap the gear at the top right of Today to open Settings
2. Tap "Account"
3. Tap "Sign out"

Your reading, prayers, and streak stay on this phone.
Your backup switch shows off until you sign back in.
