How do I earn XP and ranks?

How do I earn XP?

• Finish your reading
• Finish your prayer
• Tap "Go deeper" for more on a passage
• Keep the night lock all night
• Hit a streak goal, like 3 or 7 days in a row

When a task is done, tap "Claim XP" to collect it.

Can I earn extra XP from a study?

After you finish both Read and Pray, the study page may offer Go deeper for that passage. About {Book} opens the same whole-book introduction across its passages. You can read it again after claiming its XP. Some introductions are for reading only and have no XP claim.

• Go deeper can give +15 XP once for each passage you study
• About {Book} can give +10 XP the first time you read its book introduction

Read the page, then tap its Claim button. These rewards add XP only. They do not add time before your apps lock again.

If you are signed in, the app waits for the server to confirm your claim before adding XP.

Can I earn XP when I read again?

When you finish a path and choose "Read again", each lesson can earn its normal reading XP once on that new pass. Finish the current lesson during an available reading time.

Reviewing an earlier lesson while your path is still unfinished gives no reading XP, even on another day. Other repeat readings keep their smaller rewards: for the same passage in one day, the first gives 3 XP, the second gives 1 XP, and later repeats give no XP.

Starting a path again gives no XP by itself. Opening or finishing the same reading time again does not give another reward. Prayer keeps its own reward rules.

Your earlier XP and level stay saved. Higher levels need more XP to reach the next level. When you read a finished path again, you can save your reading after its reward time ends, but that reading gives no XP.

Can I earn more XP?

Yes. Pick less time with your apps open:

1. On Today, tap the gear to open Settings
2. Tap "Daily plan", then "How long apps open"
3. Pick a choice and tap "Save plan"

The app says it plainly: "Less time open pays more XP".

How long you pray does not change your XP. A 1 minute prayer and a 1 hour prayer pay the same.

Can I lose XP?

Yes. An emergency unlock, a broken streak, or days away can cost XP.

Your level never goes down, even when XP is taken away.

Where do I see my level?

Open Today and tap "Your walk". It shows your level and how much XP you need for the next one.

How do ranks work?

The ranks are called "The Watch". From first to last:

1. Lantern Bearer
2. Gatekeeper
3. Watchman
4. Wall Warden
5. Castellan
6. Dawnwatch

Each rank has three steps: III, II, then I. Dawnwatch has no steps. It counts days instead.

How do I move up?

Your apps lock once, twice, or three times a day, based on your pace. Each time, read and pray to open them. That earns you one star.

Four full days of this at your pace moves you up one step.

Can my rank go down?

Yes, a little. A day with no reading and prayer can cost one star. The app goes easy on you:

• Never in your first week
• Never while you are a Lantern Bearer
• Never more than two stars a week

Each season lasts 13 weeks. When a new season starts, your rank can drop back a step.

Your best rank never falls. The Ranks page shows it as "HIGHEST EVER", "Kept for good".

4. The "Ranks" page shows your rank now, your best rank, and the whole ladder

Your rank is private. Ranks are "A record of showing up. Never a measure of faith".
